University of Connecticut, Peter J. Werth Residence Hall

KBE was the Design-Builder for the 210,000 sf, 727-bed, multistory residence complex for UConn’s Next Generation initiative to support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programs. The residence hall provides 89 single and 319 double bedrooms, including 27 ADA-compliant rooms. The ground floor includes a lobby, living room, game room, meeting rooms, laundry, and collaborative workspace. The project was set on a highly constrained site amid a major pedestrian thoroughfare with adjacent residences and dining halls. LEED Gold-certified, the project includes solar plumbing, solar photovoltaic arrays on the roof, a “green” roof, a reclaim water system, and high-efficiency major equipment. The project was constructed in just 22 months despite the worst winter on record for the region.
