University of Connecticut, Next Generation Connecticut Residence Hall

KBE was the Design-Builder for the 210,000 sf, 727-bed, multi-story residence complex for UConn’s Next Generation initiative to support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programs. The residence hall provides 89 single and 319 double bedrooms, including 27 ADA compliant beds. The ground floor includes a lobby, living room, game room, meeting rooms, laundry and collaborative work space and tools. The project was set on a highly constrained site amid a major pedestrian thoroughfare with adjacent residence and dining halls. Designed and constructed to achieve LEED Silver certification, the project includes solar plumbing, solar photovoltaic arrays on the roof, a “green” roof, a re-claim water system and high efficiency major equipment. The project was constructed in just 22 months despite the worst winter on record.
